The first tomato ripened in the garden over the weekend. This variety is called Orange Russian 117, it is one of the few varieties that made it all the way from seed to plant to the garden. In the end only about 15 plants made it into our garden or a friends. On the up side there are LOTS of green tomatoes just waiting to ripen, it has been pretty cool here this summer so they are taking their time. We ate this guy plain, no salt even, it was the best tomato either of us had ever eaten. I can’t wait for more to ripen and share them with friends. We plan on saving the seeds from a few fruits of each plant for next year and to share.
